JASHNN (MOVIE)

JASHNN

MOVIE REVIEW

Rating: 3 out of 5*
Starring: Adhyayan Suman, Shahana Goswami, Anjana Sukhani and Humayun Saeed
Director duo – Raksha and Hasnain

Jashnn revolves around the life of twenty year old Akash Verma (Adhyayan Suman) who aspires to be the latest singing sensation of India and become the heartthrob of millions of fans. But he is unable to compete with the existing singers, who have already climbed the ladder of success and are now basking in its glory. He seeks to create a niche for his own voice in the music industry and be on the road to stardom, fans and recognition. In the process of reaching his destiny, Akash finds himself shattered when he encounters a sordid truth. His elder sister Nisha (Shahana) who works to earn money and provide him with a decent lifestyle is the mistress of a very rich businessman, Aman Bajaj (Humayun). The twist in the tale however occurs when Akash finds Sara (Anjana) in his life and proves to be his mentor as well as his biggest support, when he undergoes a very painful period in his professional life. Unknown to him, Sara is none other than the sister of his biggest enemy - Aman Bajaj. However, she makes Akash realize that he is a singer with an inherent talent and he should never give up hope. With Sara’s genuine love and support, Akash surmounts the toughest period of his life, discovers his voice once again and starts on the journey to success. Luck also starts showering on Akash soon after. He becomes an overnight star and manages to restore dignity to his beleaguered sister as well. Does Akash continue to be his good old self even after achieving stardom? Does he succeed in living up to the faith that Sara had shown in him all along the way? What happens to his terms with his biggest detractor - Aman Bajaj? These questions get answered in the rest part of the film.

After delivering two duds The Killer and The Train, director duo Raksha and Hasnain finally manage to get it right the third time. Their attempt at an emotion packed musical works to a large extent. Though there are moments that remind you of Rock On, Jashnn manages to come out on its own. Shagufta Rafique’s screenplay is packed with some great emotional moments which succeed in bringing tears in your eyes and due credit for the same also needs to be shared with actors Adhyayan-Shahana and Anjana and the director duo. The influence of Mahesh Bhatt can be experienced in the confrontation scenes between Adhyayan and Humayun. Music by Toshi-Sharib makes a bigger impact while watching the songs on screen. On the downside, the second half appears lengthy as the pace drops down. But eventually, the climax packs a punch.

Adhyayan Suman shows tremendous growth as an actor in his first solo lead role. Shahana impresses as always. Anjana Sukhani often relegated to thankless parts in her earlier films gets a well etched role which she performs well. Pakistani actor Humayun Saeed is very impressive.

Jashnn has some wonderful music, great performances and a good story to tell. Do check it out. You won’t be disappointed. -Sampurn Media
