Movie Review

It makes you laugh now and then, but it falls short of being a laugh riot. David Dhawan’s movie Partner works because Govinda shows traces of his old comic self once again.

One would be stupid to expect some sense out of a David Dhawan flick. He is the man who can give a humorous twist to hogwash. His brand of comedy is strictly slapstick, and pretty enjoyable at that. And ‘Partner’, his comeback film after a gap of one-and-a-half years, does carry a good dose of comedy. But it is certainly not among Dhawan’s best works.

Govinda is the backbone of the film. Salman Khan , sharing almost equal footage, provides him good support. Besides their performances, it is the script that makes the movie click. The plot may be flimsy, but the dialogues are far from banal.

The comedy in the dialogues is in rhyme. For instance when Govinda finds Salman with his (Govinda’s) girlfriend on a boat, he says Tu meri girlfriend ka saiyaan ban ke, naiiya ke upar, chaiyya chaiyya kar raha hai. Or in another scene when Govinda forgets to wear his pants, Salman says: “Dude, you’re practically nude”. The film has many more hilarious dialogues like these with rhyming words.

‘Partner’ tells the story of a Love Guru and his chela. Prem (Salman Khan) was born to be a love guru. He was born among girls, grew up among girls and now he gives advice and guidance to people about how to woo girls.

Enters Bhaskar (Govinda), a chubby, bespectacled dreamer who is in love with his stunningly beautiful boss, Priya ( Katrina Kaif ), a multi-millionaire heiress of Jaisingh group of industries. When Bhaskar asks Prem for tips to win Priya’s heart, the love guru laughs off and tells Bhaskar to forget her.

After a bit of persuasion and a series of minor misadventures in Phuket, Prem agrees to guide Bhaskar.

On a different front, Prem falls for Naina ( Lara Dutta ), a journalist who keeps bumping into him while running away from the underworld’s ‘dreaded’ Chhota Don (Rajpal Yadav).

The two love stories move ahead. With more than a little help from Love Guru, Bhaskar is able to make a notable impression on Priya and win her affection. On the other hand, Prem makes his advances on Naina.

Things take a turn when Priya’s father fixes her marriage with a foreigner. This is when Bhaskar arrives on the marriage scene to win her hand. And just when it seems that both Bhaskar and Prem’s respective love stories would have a happy ending, there comes another twist. Their secret is exposed.

The comedy in ‘Partner’ is not cerebral. It is not so high on wit as on slapstick. The jokes and the gags have a desi, street flavour. And there are some dialogues that are indeed hilarious.

When gangster Chhota Don (who speaks in cricket lingo all the time) gets wet by a kid’s urine in a loo, he says: pitch geeli kar di. Or whenever Govinda gets too happy he begins weeping and exclaims: Itni Khushi!.

There is no doubt about the fact that the chemistry between Govinda and Salman is groovy. There is not a single scene in the film in which either of them tries to outdo the other. Despite this, Govinda dominates the proceedings simply because of his superb comic timing. The actor is rediscovering his old magical touch again. Salman, too, gives a few moments of laughter, but he is no match for his chubby partner.

The ladies don’t have much to do in this film. Yet, Katrina Kaif looks mesmerizingly beautiful. Lara Dutta plays her part well. Rajpal Yadav is strictly okay.

‘Partner’ could have done without the Chhota Don track (featuring Rajpal Yadav in a spoof on SRK’s ‘Don’). Even Rajat Bedi’s character (that of a womanizer) is half-baked, though it has some significance in the plot. And there are certain sequences that are completely out of sync. For instance, Salman on a motorboat, dodging a killer rocket. Or Salman getting bullied by a little kid.

‘Partner’ may be heavily inspired from the Hollywood film ‘Hitch’ but the comedy in it is very desi. The music by Sajid-Wajid is funky and goes well with the film’s theme.

All said, the best sequence of ‘Partner’ comes in the end, when both Govinda and Salman are having their honeymoon in adjacent rooms. In this final sequence comes the comedy that will have you in splits.

Raj Kanwar has an impressive track record. A majority of his films have worked at the box-office, including his last release, ANDAAZ. Expectedly, the expectations from HUMKO DEEWANA KAR GAYE, his new film that teams him with ANDAAZ hero Akshay Kumar again, are humungous.

Also, since the head honchos of music company T-Series, Bhushan Kumar and Kishan Kumar, are in the producers� seat with Kanwar, the expectations only mount further.

HUMKO DEEWANA KAR GAYE had all the trappings that make a memorable love story: A good-looking cast, melodious music and dazzling locales of Canada. But something�s missing�

For any love story to strike a chord, it ought to be embellished with moments that make you fall in love with the characters. Most importantly, the sequences should march into your heart through the eyes. Unfortunately, HUMKO DEEWANA KAR GAYE is all about great visuals, while the emotional side [that should be the hallmark] is superficial.

Simply put, HUMKO DEEWANA KAR GAYE is body beautiful, minus soul.

Inspired by director Bronwen Hughes� Ben Affleck-Sandra Bullock starrer FORCES OF NATURE [1999], which was remade by Mehul Kumar as KITNE DOOR� KITNE PAAS [2002; Fardeen Khan, Amrita Arora], HUMKO DEEWANA KAR GAYE is a good opportunity gone amiss.

Aditya [Akshay Kumar, an automobile engineer, is engaged to Sonia [Bipasha Basu], a fashion designer. As individuals, Aditya and Sonia are not on the same wavelength. For Sonia, career comes first. And as much as Aditya tries to overlook those facts, they keep coming in the way.

Though the marriage date is fixed, Aditya has to leave for Canada to learn about the technique of a new car model, to be launched in India; while Sonia has to leave for Paris for a fashion show.

Aditya arrives in Canada where his sister Simran [Bhagyashree] lives. He meets the family, but cannot live with them as the company has given him an apartment close to the workshop. But he makes it a point to meet the family on weekends.

He bumps into Jia [Katrina Kaif] more than once. Jia, daughter of business tycoon Yashwardhan, has come to Canada to shop for her wedding. Her marriage has been fixed with business giant Karan Oberoi [Anil Kapoor].

Jia is a simple girl with simple needs. She had everything she desired in childhood, but yearns to spend time with her ever-so-busy father. Now, the man her father has chosen for her hardly has any time for her. Aditya and Jia manage to spend time with each other and as time passes, the friendship thickens.

However, a misunderstanding with Aditya makes Jia return to India to get married to Karan. Aditya also returns to India to get married to Sonia and does not attempt to meet Jia ever again. But fate makes them meet for the last time -- at Jia�s wedding!

The problems with HUMKO DEEWANA KAR GAYE are manifold �

The story borrows heavily from Yash Raj�s successful films, mainly D.D.L.J. Yes, the basic premise is borrowed from FORCES OF NATURE, but the film gives you a constant feeling of d�j� vu.

Take for instance Anil Kapoor�s introduction [he is told Akshay is from the room service department and Anil tips him]. The entire sequence is a straight lift from the Julia Roberts-Hugh Grant-Alex Baldwin starrer NOTTING HILL. Even the scene when Anil reprimands Katrina is straight out of TITANIC, when an overtly possessive Billy Zane reprimands Kate Winslet.

There are too many songs in the narrative. Whether or not the situation warrants a song, there�s one after every 15/20 minutes.

The story refuses to move in the first hour after the characters are established. All that the lead pair does is talk, talk and more talk. In this age of love and lust, the couple don�t even own up to the fact that they�ve developed feelings for each other.

At the intermission point, with Anil Kapoor making a dramatic entry, you expect some movement in the story. Again, nothing happens.

The climax is the weakest link of the enterprise. Not only has it been stretched endlessly, even the culmination to the story is powerless. First Anil catches Akshay and Katrina red-handed, then Anil shows his displeasure, then the car accident, then Anil re-unites the lovers [even after Anil and Katrina have wed]� the last 25 minutes give you the impression that the writer doesn�t believe in short-n-sweet endings.

Given the fact that director Raj Kanwar is saddled with a lifeless script, he tries to compensate with breath-taking visuals and gloss. But let�s get one thing right: No amount of gloss and glitter can actually compensate for a sound story. The viewer yearns for a spellbinding story at the end of the day!

Editing is another area where the film falters badly. Either the editor must�ve fallen in love with the product and he forgot all about editing/trimming or he doesn�t know his job. The film should be trimmed by 30 minutes at least.

Anu Malik�s music is decent, but you remember them less for the tunes and more for the snazzy picturization. �Fanah� and the title track do leave a mark, but it�s the Himesh Reshammiya rendered/composed title track that stands out as the best piece in the enterprise.

Cinematography [Vikas Shivraman] is magnificent. The ace lensman has done complete justice to the eye-filling locales of Canada as also the lavish sets. The styling and the sets are top class. In fact, the producers need to be complimented for leaving no stone unturned when it came to giving the film a spectacular look and also for promoting the film to the optimum.

Akshay Kumar does reasonably well, although he looks too mature for these lovey-dovey characters. Katrina Kaif is a complete revelation. Taking giant strides as an actor, she is, without doubt, the star of the show. It�s her magnetic presence and dependable performance that you carry home once the show has ended.

Anil Kapoor is okay, but why does the corporate tycoon sport an unshaven, untidy look all through? Bipasha has two songs and few scenes, which she carries off with panache. Bhagyashree is up to the mark. Helen is wasted. Vivek Shauq is alright. Gurpreet Guggi and Upasna Singh don�t get any scope. The remaining characters [Puneet Issar-Anju Mahndroo-Delnaaz Paul, Ranjeet-Neena Kulkarni, Mahesh Thakur and Manoj Joshi] are hardly there.

On the whole, HUMKO DEEWANA KAR GAYE is body beautiful, minus soul. At the box-office, the film has some scope thanks to the fantastic promotion, but a poor script is its biggest flaw. Below expectations!

dhoom 2 is a great movie the script is weak but this movie works for hrithiks amazing performance abhishek has done great he suits the role and is not far away from hrithik ashwaria rai looks gorgeous and act wells she has amazing looks and act well bipasha basu looks gorgeous is well but does not get to much scoop compared to ashwaria. uday chopra has done good some good comedy scenes.i like this movie but dhoom was bettwe both were blockbusters but dhoom 2 did better actions scenes from hrithik has been well excuted a great sequel.

The story starts in the streets of Mumbai, where a gang of high-speed motorcyclists (riding bikes like the Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa) are robbing banks and money-vans and disappearing into thin air - or rather into pizza delivery boys - before anyone can say "thief".

ACP Jai Dixit, (Abhishek Bachchan) a no-nonsense cop is called on the case. He seeks the help of a scatterbrained, clownish downtown racer named Ali (Uday Chopra) and devises a trap to catch the thieves, but fails. Kabir,(John Abraham) the leader of the gang, eventually taunts Dixit by saying that he couldn't catch Kabir even if he were right in front of him. He is proved correct and the failure of Dixit seemingly leads to the breakup of his partnership with Ali.

Kabir then lures Ali into his gang to replace Rohit, the gang member who was killed by Jai. Meanwhile, Jai is making out with his wife, Sweety (Rimi Sen). Ali also falls in love with Sheena,(Esha Deol) another gang member. The gang later goes to Goa to perform one last big heist before disbanding forever. Kabir now sets his eyes on the biggest casino in all of India. Kabir and his gang swiftly rob the casino on New Year's Eve, but soon, they realize that Jai has planned them right into a trap. In the end, Kabir rides his bike off of a cliff as Ali and Jai look on. It is not clear if Kabir dies or if he manages to escape; his non-appearance in Dhoom 2 suggests he dies.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is Aishwariya Rai’s best chance to establish herself as a talented actress in the Bollywood. Sanjay Leela Bhansali who earlier tried his hands at an offbeat movie Khamoshi, has put together a good show.

The story of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is a story of a happy joint family of classical singer Pandit Darbar (Vikram Ghokle), his wife (Smita Jaykar) and their beautiful, young and intelligent daughter Nandini (Aishwarya Rai). The joint family also has a grandmother (Zohra Seghal) and uncles and aunts and plenty of children.

The family resides in a huge mansion located somewhere in Gujarat. Samir (Salman Khan) lives in Italy. He wants to learn classical singing. So, on a Diwali function he comes to learn classical singing from Pandit Darbar. He is a happy-go-lucky guy but has a strange habit of speaking to his father who has long died. He keeps looking at the heaven while ‘speaking’ to his father.

As is the case in all the Bollywood films, first Nandini does not give bhav to Samir’s overtures but they eventually fall in love. Now, to add some twist to the story, the director makes it a triangular affair. During a wedding ceremony in their house, Vanraj (Ajay Devgan) sees Nandini and falls in love with her.

Pandit Darbar who always wanted a singer husband for his daughter agrees at the proposal by his lawyer friend (Rajiv Verma). Meanwhile, Samir and Nandini’s romance comes out in the open.

Vanraj loves Nandini very much. But finds that Nandini is not very enthusiastic at their wedding night. Soon he discovers the reason behind Nandini’s cool response to his love and affection. He finds letters, which Samir had sent her. He loses his temper at this discovery. That’s understandable. But one hero has to sacrifice if ‘true love’ has to win. So, Vanraj decides to sacrifice his love. They decide to go to Italy to find Samir.

Vanraj has no photograph of Samir. They go to every music shop and ask for ‘an Indian musician’. During the search a couple tries to loot them and shoots Nandini. Nandini is admitted into hospital. While in the hospital, Nandini comes to know about the good attitude of Vanraj. She starts liking him.

Incidentally, Samir and Vanraj meet each other. They become good friends. They pray for Nandini together. Samir teaches Vanraj a few notes of classical songs. But Vanraj does recognize Samir. Slowly Nandini falls in love with Vanraj. She starts wearing 'sindoor' and 'mangal sutra' around her neck. She does not want to go to Samir anymore.

Finally, the time comes for the two lost lovebirds to meet. Samir is giving his first grand show at the Opera House. His Italian mother (Helen) tells him about Nandini. But when Samir comes to hug her, he finds her very cold. She tells him about her husband Vanraj. Now it is turn of the hero to see the reason. Samir decides to 'free' Nandini.

The film has been beautifully presented. The film has all the ingredients - comedy, emotion, and romance – to make it a beautiful movie. The film’s picturisation is beautiful. It’s shot at some very exotic locales in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Italy.

Aishwarya Rai has done justice with her talent. Ajay Devgan has once again proved that he is good actor. Salman Khan looks charming but fails to impress as far as acting is concerned.

One of the main highlight of the movie is its music. The movie has 11 songs. Title song Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Ankhon Ki Gustakhian and Chand Khila Badal mein are really good. Its music will be a major factor in its success at the box office.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is a good and clean movie. No harm in watching it with entire family

The title genuinely lives up to its expectation. The audience at some point of time does start thinking – Dhoondte Reh Jaoge.

The film kick starts with our short but loyal Anand Powar (Kunal Khemu), the chartered accountant who always chooses to follow the long-cut where on the other hand the world opts for the short-cut ways. He does feel proud about it, although cursing that because of his decision he is always looked down by others. His house is so small that if he tries to stretch himself, the vessels start crumbling down. His Bengali girlfriend, Neha (Soha Ali Khan) is unhappy about this and his mama, Dilip Joshi, a theatre director is frustrated with him.

On the other hand is Aryan (Sonu Sood), an overconfident superstar who intents to do films only with big directors. These are two ‘chapters’ but the biggest ‘chapter’ is Raj Chopra (Paresh Rawal), who is drowned in the sea of debts. He is a flop director who gave 10 consecutive flops in a row. Raj is smart; smart when it comes to fooling others. He drops the rickshaw and catches the other one, hence cutting down the cost. He goes to a posh restaurant and leaves the bill for others to pay. He wears his old shabby coat and secretly exchanges it with a new one from the showroom. Now his only way of escaping his debts is to do a movie with the star Aryan.

Aryan on the other hand ignores his offer thinking that who will contribute in making another flop at the box-office. At this point of time Raj meets Anand, who had some personal rivalry of fooling each other more than once. They together plan out a deadly concept which would fetch them a profit of 100 crores. Their only motive is to make the biggest flop of the century which will fetch them the profit and the sufferers will be the 10 financiers who will be unaware of each others contribution in the movie.

They start their own company called ‘Raj Anand’ and money starts flowing in. Finally, Aryan agrees to star in the movie along with Neha (Soha) as the lead. The extra friendship and bonding between them makes Anand jealous. If one wants to make a big flop who else will they contact than Pervez Asaraff’ (Johnny Lever), who is a big time devotee of Pakistan. Hearing the script Raj finalizes Pervez for a sum of rupees one thousand only. They start working on the movie.

The script prepared by Pervez is all copies of big hit films like DDLJ, Sholay, Lagaan and more. So by default the title of the film goes as ‘Solay se Lagaan Tak’. Raj and Anand decide that in the end there will be a cricket match in which team Pakistan will win and this will automatically make the film a big flop with tomatoes and potatoes flying over the screen.

Unfortunately that does not happen due to Aryan’s involvement, which again unfortunately Raj and Anand are unaware of. Dubai’s don’s involvement as a financier put them in deeper trouble when every financier comes to know that they are not the sole financier the film.

Dhoondte Reh Jaoge (DRJ) is a comedy film with amazing performance by each and every artist. But no doubt the show stealers are none other than Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever. Their stupendous acting with a spoon of masala comic timing make the audience laugh their hearts out. The movie is entertaining all throughout the first half. The second half of the film takes a rapid pace making things confusing and irritating. The sequence where the actors enact the scenes from Sholay, DDLJ, and Lagaan are a big turn off. Some of the dialogues are good enough, especially the ones delivered by Paresh and Johnny, but most of them doesn’t even get a smile on your face.

The music in the film is very satisfactory. Some of the songs are annoying, especially the ‘tapori song’. Sajid-Wajid has certainly not lived upto the expectation. A romantic song featuring Soha and Kunal has been removed which was much praised by the team.

Director, Umesh Shukla has done a decent job and has plotted everything very carefully. The major twists and turns in the movie are something to make a note of. Unfortunately the very spark in the film is missing which makes the movie a complete showdown. Anyways it was a good try by the director but he needs to keep his flaws in mind.

All in all the film is for the people who are wanderers and just want to spend their 3 hours in an air conditioner theatre or for people who watch a movie just for the heck of it. Yes, if one is a die hard fan of Paresh Rawal or Johnny Lever, they can certainly go for it.

In India gangsters are called Bhai (brothers). One such Bhai is Munna, who is feared by everyone in Mumbai, a big city in India. He cons his village-based parents into believing that he is a doctor. He gets a shock when he finds out that they are coming to verify for themselves. So he transforms a rooming shanty house into a makeshift hospital, populated by patients, people he beats up. His parents arrive, are pleased, and happy that their son is well settled. They would like him to get married to a doctor's daughter. The marriage is arranged, but before the engagement, the bride's father finds out the truth about Munna, and cancels the marriage. Munna's humiliated parents see the truth for themselves, and hurt, they return home, leaving Munna with a strong desire to hurt the doctor - and force him to let his daughter get married to him - even if it means getting admitted in the medical college - with forged documents!!!

Gopal (Ajay Devgan), who lives with his wife Ekta (Kareena Kapoor), sister Esha (Amrita Arora) and a dumb brother-in-law Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor), gets stuck in a yacht one night after he saves an attractive young woman Meera (Celina Jaitley) from the dreaded goons, while on his way back home from office. Due to the circumstances, both of them stay back on the yacht. When he arrives home the next day, his over suspicious wife Ekta, a hard core saas-bahu serial’s fan, suspects him of flirting around with his girl staffs. Gopal thinks that it’s difficult to convince her by telling her about the incident that actually took place the prior night and hence, he invents a story about spending the night with a fictitious friend named Anthony Gonsalves. Ekta does not believe his story as she knows that he never had a friend by that name, and hence, she decides to write to Anthony to come and visit her. Gopal then convinces one of his juniors, Laxman (Shreyas Talpade), to pretend like Anthony, and thus convince Ekta that he was indeed telling the truth. Laxman agrees to do so, and everything goes according to plan until the address on which Ekta had written a letter to Anthony turns out to be real. Meanwhile, Gopal finds out that a dead body was found at the same location where he saved Meera from the goons. The Investigating Officer Madhav (Arshad Warsi), who also happens to be Esha’s boyfriend, does not get along well with Gopal. He finds out that Gopal was missing from his home that very night and that the dead person was an employee from his company
